Bundle Up on Winning Wines

The Virginia Governor’s Cup awards for 2021 have been revealed — and now comes the fun part. It’s time to sample them for yourself, and stock your cellar. Several wineries are making it easy by offering special bundles of their winning bottles. Remember that Virginia vineyards don’t produce huge volumes, so grab them while you can. Some of these wines aren’t available for sale individually. Here’s a taste of what you can get.

Michael Shaps, Virginia Wineworks: You can pick up Shaps’ 10 gold-medal winning bottles and Shenandoah Valley Reserve Red 2017 — a winner from a vineyard Shaps owns and operates — in the 2021 Governor's Cup Gold Medal Package. It includes the Governor’s Cup winner, 2015 Meritage. The package is available for 25% off, a total of $286, through March 31. If you add a 12th bottle, you can get free shipping for the case.

Early Mountain: The vineyard has two options — the Gold Medal Pack for $150 includes Early Mountain’s four gold winners; and the Gold Medal Plus includes those four and the Governor’s Case winner R.A.H. Series 1 dessert wine, a personal project by the vineyard’s associate winemaker and viticulturist, Maya Hood White. It’s $190. The vineyard does offer free shipping over a certain amount.

Veritas Vineyard: The Virginia Governor’s Cup Gold Winners Bundle is $190. The five bottles include the Governor’s Case winning 2017 Petit Verdot.

Pollak Vineyards: The vineyard’s three gold-medal winners are available for $120.

Pippin Hill: Get two gold-medal winners and one silver winner with the Governor’s Cup 2021 Trio for $110.

Jefferson Vineyard: Grab the Triple Gold Bundle, including Viognier, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, for $104. Only available in March, while supplies last.
